The Cube Test
84The Cube Test
What is the Cube Test?
It's fun--give the cube test to your friends. Take the cube test yourself. What is the cube test? It's a psychological device, really. It's very telling. The answers to the cube test may surprise you!
It's very simple.
Here's what you do:
- First, imagine a desert. Nothing but sand for miles and miles and miles and miles--as far as the eye can see.
- Next, imagine a cube sitting on your desert. Whatever kind of cube you want, the first kind of cube that comes into your mind.
- Next, imagine a ladder. Whatever kind of ladder you want.
- Next, imagine a horse. Get a horse into that mental picture somewhere.
When asked to imagine a cube, I imagined a Christmas boxed present. It was a medium sized box--not to big, not to little.
And that, apparently, is a good thing! A sign of mental health!
For the cube represents YOU, your self-image. If you imagined a cube the size of a house, it might mean you err on the side of egoism.
If, on the other hand, you imagined a little bitty ice cube melting away in the desert sun, it might mean you have low self-esteem and a problem with a positive self-image.
For a ladder, I imagined an aluminum stepladder, sitting near the cube, but not leaning against it, and somewhat bigger than my cube.
The ladder represents your friends. If you imagined a wooden ladder, leaning against your cube, that means that your friends lean on you and you are glad to be needed. The closer the ladder is to the cube, the closer you feel to your friends. The farther away, the more distant you feel towards your friends. The smaller the ladder is in proportion to the cube, the less important your friends are to you.
In my case, that my stepladder (not as pictured here) was close to the the cube (ME!), and proportionately quite sizable, but not touching the cube meant that my friends are valued, they are often in my thoughts, and they have my good will and good wishes, but I don't lean on them nor do I wish them to lean on me. I maintain my independence from my friends. This is psychologically probably not the best news. I'm a lot more aloof than I think I am. I could be more involved with my friends and be healthier.
I imagined a horse--a beautiful white horse, from a short story I read once, called, "The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse".
The horse was off in the background, the cube and the stepladder were definitely in the foreground. I really had a little trouble getting the horse into my mental image at all. It was off in the distance, bucking and rearing, no bit nor bridle nor saddle, completely untamed and unavailable.
And this turned out to be psychologically very apt. The horse represents your significant other. I have no one, I live alone. I've been married and divorced, twice, and now I'm content (more or less) to be just me, by myself.
If the horse is in the foreground of the picture, that means your significant other is near you, and how big your horse is determines how important your relationship is to you. If the horse is going over the hill and into the sunset, it might just mean the relationship is drawing to a close. If your horse is untamed, and free, it means there's little commitment in the relationship, or you feel your horse (your significant other) is not committed to you. If your horse is wearing a bit, and bridle and a saddle, it means you feel your significant other is committed. (Tamed!)

That's the cube test. That's it. That's all there is to it. But the results of the cube test, especially if you've never heard of it before and have no preconceived notions taking it, really are very revealing. Several of my family and friends took the cube test, without knowing the significance of the answers beforehand, and were surprised at the results. I wasn't really, on calm consideration. I was a little surprised at how accurate the cube test revelations seemed to be.

I love the cube test!
In my cube I imagined it to be pink and the size of a rubrics cube. It was right by my feet. It was transparent and glistening.
My ladder was 20 feet away and it went up very high.
The horse was interesting. It was saddled and walking towards me.
Very interesting!! All was good until the horse. Really couln't get him in there . . . and I spent many years riding/competing (with) hunters/jumpers, so I feel very comfortable with horses. Gotta read this again!!
This was really awesome. I never heard of this test before, but it seems pretty accurate. I wonder what it means if my cube is bouncing all over the place? Does that mean I am hyperactive or too indecisive? I will have to think on that more.
I envisioned a gleaming steel cube coming down like the Borg in Star Trek accompanied by the ominous sounds--huge like the pyramids with a door opening with light and a ladder coming down out of the cube. An Arabian black stallion stood on the crest of a dune looking on. If that means I have a big ego at least my friends share it with me. Heh heh
Thank you for an entertaining hub. =:)
My cube was inverted cracked and rainbow colored. My ladder had spikes on the side of it and shot straight to the heavens as pictured however lacking spikes. The horse was a miniature galop used In parades. It's back or top I should say, was burned and it's face was half dead. After when all objects were in view, they all merged into that dwarf from konan the barbarian. Trippy shit man.
This was pretty interesting. I imagined a Rubik's cube... what do you think that means?
This is very interesting! My results were kind of interesting as well. Apparently I have only moderate self-esteem, I'm not very socially calibrated, and I have no idea what I really want in a significant other! But I'm working on all three of those things :)
Totally awesome hub!
Interesting post Paradise7 I'd never heard of the cube test before. I'm gonna go look it up!
How interesting.I love these fun tests. I must try it on a few folks. We like to pass these around and we all tend to test as being kind of weird. Well, birds of a feather...
Thanks for a fun hub!
Great test Paradise...I dreamed of a huge ice cube with a regular 12 ft aluminum ladder standing on top of it. The horse was way off in the distance..hrmm
-Egotistical, close friendships, and keep my 'love' life at a distance...ha, sounds about right, I guess. :P
well, i couldn't find the test so i just answered the questions as follows:
"First, imagine a desert. Nothing but sand for miles and miles and miles and miles--as far as the eye can see."
My desert is all white sand with huge dunes like the Sahara desert. there is no vegetation of any kind.
"Next, imagine a cube sitting on your desert. Whatever kind of cube you want, the first kind of cube that comes into your mind."
My cube is a very clear, pure pale blue, like water, but really beautifully blue like in a watercolor. It is not big or small, but i didn't even think about the size of it, just the clarity and color.
"Next, imagine a ladder. Whatever kind of ladder you want."
My ladder is made of bamboo and rests against a sturdy tree trunk and goes up into a huge green canopy of rainforest trees and clouds. it is cool and dark there.
"Next, imagine a horse. Get a horse into that mental picture somewhere."
My horse is a beautiful chestnut stallion, he is very sweet and tame, but strong and sturdy. again, i didn't think of his placment..he was just there, but prominently.
hmm, this was really interesting. thanks! rating UP and looking for the FUN button ;)
Very interesting test Paradise7. Didn't actually do this while reading, but now that I know the significance of each symbol, I don't think I'd do it justice after the fact.
Might try it on someone else today though. Mwa ha ha!
Interesting test. My significate other loomed large in the foreground. My cube was like a rubics cube about the size of a small dog and my ladder was in the middle between my cube and horse reaching for the skies. I think it was good results. Love the test.
I did not even really envision the horse at all, so I know that means I do not have one!
This is very coool.
Welcome back, No.7. I missed you. Great hub and one to test my wife on. We'll see!!
beautiful pictures and great hub.
Wow that is really interesting. I really enjoyed reading this. I am going to try this on my hubby and friends.
Before I read on I imagined an ice cube. I thought it was funny because an ice cube would definitely not belong in a desert...
Interesting topic most certainly. My horse was near the cube and the ladder but he was a huge black beauty - kinda like Black Beauty but he was totally nearby and friendly.
I'm not sure I want to tell Bob he was Black Beauty but that's not a bad thing, right? Interesting concepts though....and I know - some men's cubes are huge! At least in their own minds....

This was so cool Paradise7. It really amazed me how accurate the test is - I imagined a small box, with a ladder leaning on it, and a brideled horse standing right next to it. I will pass this along to my facebook family.
I enjoyed this very much, it is always interesting to stand back and really evaluate yourself from time to time.
Hi, Paradise. I think I did okay except in perception of self. I imagined a melting ice cube, but it was pretty big. Not sure what to make of that one......
This was an interesting test, and welcome back. It has been awhile since we've seen you here.
Mike
